In March, Aotearoa New Zealand for UNHCR hosted an inspiring community-led evening of storytelling, music and solidarity at The Cloud.
Guests learned more about UNHCR’s work and the difference Kiwis are making for people forced to fleeing across crises in Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria.
The evening featured powerful stories from people with lived experience of displacement, including Aotearoa New Zealand for UNHCR Ambassador Eyad Masoud and human rights lawyer Madiha Ali. Eyad reflected on his journey from Aleppo to New Zealand and on the role community support played in helping him rebuild his life.
Madiha also shared how her own experience fleeing Pakistan continues to shape her advocacy and commitment to ensuring refugee voices are heard.
Guests also enjoyed a special live performance by Kurdish-Kiwi singer-songwriter NOURI, whose music added to the warm and uplifting atmosphere of the evening.
The event marked an important milestone for Aotearoa New Zealand for UNHCR, celebrating our growing community and the groundswell of support for refugees across the country.
